A body found in a wooded area along Interstate 45 in Conroe on Thursday, Aug. 6, is believed to be that of Steven Collier, a 65-year-old Willis resident reported missing three days earlier.

Conroe Police Department officers responded to the 12000 block of North IH-45 at approximately 1:16 p.m. after someone reported finding a body near the roadway, according to a Conroe police news release. The location sits along the I-45 corridor connecting Conroe to The Woodlands and the greater Houston metro area.

Patrol officers located the body in a wooded area near a walking trail.

The body was in an advanced state of decomposition.

Collier's family members had reported him missing to Conroe police on Monday, Aug. 3. The clothing on the body matched the description of what Collier was last seen wearing when the missing person report was filed, the department said.

Conroe police detectives and crime scene investigators responded to the scene and found no obvious signs of trauma or injuries. The department said the identity cannot be confirmed until an autopsy is complete.

The body was transported to the Montgomery County Forensic Center, where an autopsy and formal identification will be conducted. No timeline for those results has been announced.

Police have not released details about the circumstances of Collier's disappearance, including where he was last seen. The investigation remains active and no further information is being released, the department said.
