A Montgomery County man charged with years of child sexual abuse is back in the Montgomery County Jail after fleeing Texas twice and using at least three aliases across two states, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office announced Saturday, Aug. 15.
James Michael Nona, 42, was taken into custody July 27 after an extensive multi-agency operation involving the MCSO SWAT Team, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Galveston Police Department, according to an MCSO press release.
The case dates to July 18, 2023, when the sheriff's office received a report alleging sexual abuse of a child under 14. The victim told investigators Nona had assaulted them over a period of several years. Detectives with the MCSO Special Victims Unit opened an investigation.
Nona learned he was under investigation and fled Texas, the sheriff's office said. Law enforcement located him in Choctaw County, Oklahoma, living under the alias "Jordan Hill." He was arrested and extradited to Montgomery County on a warrant for continuous sexual abuse of a young child or disabled individual, a first-degree felony under Texas law.
He posted bond and was released Oct. 23, 2024.
On Nov. 25, 2025, Nona allegedly removed his court-ordered GPS monitor and disappeared again while his case was still pending. Detectives tracked him to Louisiana, where he had been using the names "Trevor Craw" and "Dusty Crawford."
The July 27 arrest ended an eight-month manhunt. The sheriff's office announced the capture nearly three weeks later, Click2Houston reported.
During the Oklahoma investigation, detectives developed information suggesting Nona may have had additional victims there. Those allegations remain under investigation by the appropriate agencies, the sheriff's office said.
Separately, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office in Louisiana said investigators received information indicating Nona was seen with a missing East Feliciana Parish mother and her 10-year-old daughter in the Butte La Rose area in late April and possibly into May, according to KATC. Louisiana authorities have not identified Nona as a suspect in that missing persons case.
