Children's Safe Harbor needs new stuffed animals. The nonprofit child-advocacy center, which serves Woodlands-area families across Montgomery, Walker and San Jacinto counties, says its shelves are nearly bare, leaving fewer comfort items for children arriving for forensic interviews and counseling after experiencing abuse.

The organization gives each child a stuffed animal during what staff describe as some of the most frightening moments of their young lives. Only brand-new stuffed animals are accepted.

Residents can drop off donations at Children's Safe Harbor's facility at 3006 N. Loop 336 E., Conroe, TX 77301. The nonprofit asks anyone with questions to call 936-756-4644 or visit childrenssafeharbor.org.

The Montgomery County Police Reporter first reported the appeal on Monday, Aug. 10.

Children's Safe Harbor is a nationally accredited children's advocacy center that brings law enforcement, prosecutors, medical professionals and counselors under one roof so children don't have to be shuttled between agencies or endure repeated interviews. All services are free to families.

In 2025, the center provided services to more than 2,444 children ages 2–17, according to the organization's website. Its 2024 impact report shows staff conducted 2,245 forensic interviews, recorded 1,943 abuse disclosures and provided 3,922 individual counseling sessions that year.

The community has rallied around Children's Safe Harbor before. On July 9, Montgomery County Pct. 3 Constable Ryan Gable hosted a breakfast fundraiser at Truluck's The Woodlands that raised more than $15,000 for the center.

Executive Director Kari Prihoda, named to the role in June after the retirement of founding director Dr. Victoria Constance, has personally conducted more than 4,000 forensic interviews over her 17 years in leadership at the organization. When she was appointed in June, Prihoda told the Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce she was "honored to lead this incredible organization alongside a dedicated team of professionals whose compassion, expertise, and commitment enhance the lives of children and families every day."
