Class Act Productions will celebrate 31 years of community theatre with "A Night to Shine: Masquerade Gala" on Saturday, Aug. 15, at The Woodlands Country Club's Palmer Course.

The one-night fundraiser marks more than three decades since co-founders Keith Brumfield and Kathi Goodfellow invested their own money to launch a theatre company in The Woodlands. Since that first production of "Bye, Bye, Birdie" in the winter of 1997, the nonprofit has staged more than 100 full-scale musicals and built a School of Musical Theatre offering acting, singing and dance classes for school-age students.

Doors open at 7 p.m. for cocktails, with the program beginning at 7:30 p.m. Dinner and dancing run until 11 p.m. at 100 Grand Fairway. Attire is black-tie optional, but the organization is encouraging guests to bring masquerade masks and their best glam looks, according to the event's ticketing page.

The gala is Class Act's primary annual fundraiser. The organization reported total revenues of $551,261 for the fiscal year ending August 2024, and the company says faithful financial supporters cover about 30 percent of costs for each production on a season-by-season basis.

Brumfield, who serves as executive artistic director, founded the company after retiring from teaching at Knox Junior High School. In a Community Impact Newspaper profile published around 2017, he explained the motivation: "I realized students went elsewhere to do theater and I said, 'We need to have a theater here.'"

That mission continues. Class Act's Season 31 is supported in part by The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, and the remaining lineup includes three main-stage productions: "Annie" (Sept. 17-27), "Oklahoma!" (Oct. 22-Nov. 1) and "A Christmas Carol" (Dec. 3-13).
