College Park rolled past Grand Oaks 48-24 at Woodforest Bank Stadium on Thursday, Oct. 22, in a District 13-6A game that had been billed as a battle for second place.

The Cavaliers entered the game at 4-3 overall and 3-1 in district play. The win moves them to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in district, strengthening their grip on a playoff spot with two district games left.

Grand Oaks came in at 5-2 overall and 3-1 in district. The loss drops the Grizzlies to 5-3 and 3-2 in league play. Woodlands Online had framed the matchup as Grand Oaks' chance at "a signature win" against a top district contender. Instead, the Grizzlies now face a tighter race for postseason positioning.

The 48 points were College Park's second-highest single-game total this season, trailing only a 63-28 win at Willis on Sept. 25. The Cavaliers have now scored 40 or more points in four games, according to MaxPreps.

College Park's offense entered the week powered by senior quarterback Camden Hughes and senior wide receiver Julian Cromartie. Hughes had thrown for 15 touchdowns against three interceptions on the season, while Cromartie had hauled in 10 of those scoring passes. Cromartie was named Woodlands Church Athlete of the Week after a four-touchdown game against Conroe on Oct. 16, according to Woodlands Online.

Grand Oaks quarterback Harley Adams had posted 14 passing touchdowns and 244 rushing yards entering the game. Defensive end Tavarus Curry led the Grizzlies with eight sacks on the season. Individual stats from Thursday's game were not available at publication.
