The Conroe ISD board of trustees will consider a school-day schedule change at its Tuesday, Oct. 20 meeting.
The board will review the 2027-28 school year calendar and may begin action on the schedule change, Community Impact Newspaper first reported. Trustees will also vote on the 2026-27 district improvement plan and hear an update from the school safety and security committee.
The district has not released details on the proposed schedule change or the calendar under review.
The improvement plan vote follows a year in which CISD beat statewide averages on the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) but saw year-over-year declines in eight of 18 grade-level subjects tested, according to Community Impact. Third-grade reading dropped 6 percentage points, third-grade math fell 5 points and fourth-grade reading declined 5 points. Sixth-grade reading slipped 4 points.
Most end-of-course exams and eighth-grade scores in math, reading and social studies improved compared to 2025.
The Texas Education Agency gave Conroe ISD an overall B rating for the third consecutive year on Aug. 15, according to Community Impact. Of the district's 66 campuses, 22 earned an A and 26 earned a B. Seven campuses received lower grades than the prior year.
Superintendent David Vinson has set a goal of pushing the district to an A rating by 2027. In a letter posted on the district's website, Vinson said CISD completed a districtwide curriculum audit and noted that elementary reading teachers in grades K-5 introduced a new curriculum while math teachers across the district were selecting a new curriculum for 2026-27.
"Earning an A for the first time or making double-digit gains does not happen by accident," Vinson said in an Aug. 16 news release after the TEA ratings were published.
The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at the Walter P. Jett Teaching and Learning Center, 19043 David Memorial Drive in Shenandoah. It will also stream live on the Conroe ISD YouTube channel. Residents who want to address the board must submit a participation form online by 3 p.m. Oct. 20 or in person between 5:30 and 6 p.m. that evening.
