A driver hit 147 MPH on the Tomball Tollway on Wednesday, Aug. 12, before Deputy Enqvist of Constable Mark Herman's Office caught up and pulled the vehicle over near the 27000 block, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter.
The speed is staggering.
The driver was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving, a misdemeanor under Texas law. The Precinct 4 Constable's Office described the speed as "alarming" in its public announcement on X. Neither the driver's name nor the type of vehicle was released.
The Tomball Tollway is a three-lane-per-direction toll road running 7.5 miles through the SH 249 corridor in north Harris County. The 27000 block sits within Precinct 4's jurisdiction, which covers The Woodlands, Spring, Klein and Cypress.
The arrest came two days into a week-long, high-visibility traffic enforcement initiative Constable Herman's office launched Monday, Aug. 10, targeting aggressive driving, speeding, road rage, impaired driving and distracted driving across all Precinct 4 communities. As we reported Aug. 10, the crackdown followed TxDOT's statewide "Operation Slow Down" campaign that ran July 18 through Aug. 2.
On Tuesday, Aug. 11, Constable Mark Herman urged drivers on X to slow down, stay alert, put phones away and never drive impaired, saying the community can keep Harris County roadways safe together.
Aug. 12 was also the first day of school for Conroe ISD, meaning more buses, parents and student drivers were sharing area roads.
Precinct 4 employs more than 670 sworn deputies across 520 square miles. The office did not announce a court date or further details about the case.
