Student-athletes at The Woodlands High School, College Park High School and nearby schools can get a free primer on college athletic recruitment Saturday, Aug. 29, at the George & Cynthia Mitchell Library.

Matt Arant, founder of Arant Academic Planning and a former assistant director of admission at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, will lead the Teen Collegiate Athlete Information Session from 11 a.m. to noon. The session is also available virtually, though registration is required.

At Franklin & Marshall, Arant served as the primary athletics liaison for the Office of Admission, working with more than two dozen intercollegiate sports programs throughout the full application cycle. He is a member of both the National Association for College Admission Counseling and the Texas Association for College Admission Counseling, and has presented on athletic recruitment at public and private schools across the country.

His presentation will cover the college athletic recruitment timeline, the role of admissions and athletics liaisons, and tips for prospective student-athletes navigating the admissions process. According to a description of a similar session Arant led at a Connecticut library in September 2025, his talks focus particularly on Division III and Ivy League recruitment.

Both Woodlands libraries in the Montgomery County Memorial Library System have a full slate of free events through Aug. 29:

Monday, Aug. 24 — Teen Hang at Mitchell Library, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Open to ages 12–18.

Tuesday, Aug. 25 — Teen Pencil Bag Craft at Kevin Brady Library, 4–5:30 p.m., for ages 13–17. All supplies provided; registration required. Mitchell Library also offers a Google Sheets beginner class (registration and Google account required).

Wednesday, Aug. 26 — Book Publishing Options with author Mike Kowis at Kevin Brady Library, 1–2 p.m. Covers publishing options, formats and typical costs. Registration required.

Thursday, Aug. 27 — Financial Literacy: Money Smart for Older Adults at Kevin Brady Library, 1–2:30 p.m. Mitchell Library screens the PG-13 film "Song Sung Blue" (2025), starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, 1–3:30 p.m., with free popcorn and snacks.

Saturday, Aug. 29 — Back-to-School Crafts at Kevin Brady Library, 11 a.m.–1 p.m., in partnership with Celebree School of The Woodlands. Designed for ages 0–6 but open to all. Kevin Brady also hosts a 3D Printer Orientation, 1–2 p.m.; space is limited, registration required, and participants ages 13–18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The George & Cynthia Mitchell Library is at 8125 Ashlane Way. The Kevin Brady Library is at 2250 Buckthorne Place. Both are open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.–8 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. They are closed Sundays.
