The Woodlands Township is bringing fireworks, live music and pie-eating contests to Waterway Square for a free Labor Day weekend celebration on Sunday, Sept. 6.
The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at 31 Waterway Square Place and caps the evening with a fireworks show at approximately 8:55 p.m., weather permitting.
Houston-based variety cover band Shake Down Band HTX kicks off the night at 5 p.m. A youth pie-eating contest follows at 6 p.m., with an adult contest at 7 p.m. Both contests are sponsored by Lankford's Burgers, the third-generation family restaurant located steps away at 24 Waterway Avenue. Registration is on-site only, space is limited, and early arrival is strongly recommended for those wishing to participate.
Paul and Jessica Prior run the Woodlands location of Lankford's, which traces its roots to a Houston grocery store founded in 1937 by Aubrey and Nona Lankford. The restaurant has been featured on Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
Children's activities and strolling entertainers will be on hand throughout the evening, according to a Township press release published Aug. 12.
Families can bring coolers, picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs. Glass is prohibited. A beverage booth will also be available, and the Township encourages attendees to patronize nearby restaurants before or after the event.
No admission is charged.
