A 10-year-old girl riding an electric scooter was struck by a vehicle Tuesday evening, Aug. 18, at the intersection of Lincolns Meadow Drive and Dukes Run Drive in The Woodlands, according to Montgomery County Police Reporter.

Deputies with Harris County Precinct 4 Constable Mark Herman's Office responded to what they classified as a major auto-pedestrian crash. The preliminary investigation found the girl entered the intersection on the scooter and was hit by a vehicle.

The child suffered significant bleeding. Precinct 4 deputies applied a tourniquet at the scene before she was taken to a Woodlands-area hospital. She was later transferred to a hospital in downtown Houston because of the severity of her injuries.

She is listed in stable condition.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with constable investigators. No charges have been announced, and the investigation remains preliminary.

Broader safety concerns

The crash adds to a series of e-scooter and e-bike incidents involving young riders in The Woodlands. Data presented to The Woodlands Township Board on July 23 showed The Woodlands Fire Department had logged 37 such incidents since it began tracking them, according to the Houston Chronicle. Twenty-five involved vehicles, and in 29 the rider was not wearing a helmet. Two resulted in major injuries.

Fire Chief Palmer Buck told the board in July that most incidents involve children ages 13 to 19 at intersections. "That continues to be a problem," Buck said at the July 23 meeting, referring to the high rate of riders without helmets.

The Township launched its "Respect the Path" e-bike safety campaign in August 2025, according to Hello Woodlands, and Conroe ISD expanded its campus e-bike and e-scooter ban district-wide for the 2026-2027 school year after a survey of 102 respondents found 71% called the devices unsafe for children.

It is not known whether the girl was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The constable's office has not released additional details about the vehicle or the circumstances leading up to the collision.
