A pickup truck driver was critically injured on the evening of Monday, Aug. 24, after being ejected during a multi-roll crash on State Highway 242 near Harrington Drive, according to Montgomery County Police Reporter.

The crash happened around 7 p.m. during the evening commute. The driver was heading eastbound on SH 242 when he approached traffic stopped at a red light near Harrington Drive. He braked and swerved left to avoid rear-ending the stopped vehicles, causing him to lose control.

The truck traveled through a roadside ditch, crossed into the westbound lanes and began rolling multiple times.

The driver was ejected.

Investigators believed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. One detail noted at the scene: the seatbelt shoulder straps had been ripped from the truck's side posts.

The driver was transported to Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center, a Level II trauma center, in critical condition with a head injury and a possible punctured lung. His identity has not been released, and his condition had not been updated as of Monday evening.

A retired firefighter who came upon the crash scene provided medical attention to the driver until first responders arrived. The retired firefighter was not identified by name.

SH 242 was closed in both directions at Harrington Drive by about 7:30 p.m. while crews investigated and cleared the scene. The road reopened by approximately 8:20 p.m., according to a traffic alert.

No agency has released a public statement about the crash.
