A pregnant woman was taken to the hospital in stable condition the morning of Friday, after a truck rear-ended a car at a red light on State Highway 242, triggering a three-vehicle pileup at one of the area's busiest intersections.

The crash happened at Old Houston Road and SH 242 and had cleared by about 9:30 a.m., according to Scott Engle of the Montgomery County Police Reporter.

A woman driving a white Kia was stopped eastbound at the red light at Old Houston Road when the Chevrolet HD5500 truck, pulling a gooseneck trailer, was unable to stop and struck the Kia from behind. The impact pushed the Kia into a Nissan Rogue stopped next to it.

The Nissan Rogue's driver, who was pregnant, was transported to the hospital. She was reported in stable condition. No other drivers were reported hospitalized.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office responded to and worked the scene. MCSO has not released further details about the crash, including whether the truck driver was cited or injured. The source does not indicate what direction the truck was traveling before impact.

Corridor already targeted for widening

The intersection sits at the northern end of a stretch of Old Houston Road that Montgomery County has already targeted for infrastructure improvement. The county awarded a contract on May 21 to Texas Materials Group, Inc. for the widening of Old Houston Road Segment 1, covering the stretch from SH 242 to 0.8 miles south of the highway. That project falls under Precinct 4 jurisdiction.

No source links the road's current condition to the Aug. 7 crash, and no construction activity has been confirmed at the intersection itself. The widening project does, however, underscore that the corridor has drawn official attention for capacity concerns.
