The Woodlands Family YMCA at Shadowbend is asking neighbors to dig through old photo albums and dust off their favorite memories ahead of a free celebration marking the facility's 40th anniversary.
The party is set for Monday, Sept. 21, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at 6145 Shadowbend Place. Admission is free and open to the public.
Staff are collecting stories, photographs and personal memories from anyone whose life has intersected with the Shadowbend Y since it opened in the fall of 1986. Submissions can be made through an online form on the YMCA's Jotform page ahead of the event.
The YMCA described the effort as a way for community members to share the people, memories and moments that shaped the facility over four decades, according to an announcement on Woodlands Online. Staff invited residents to upload a favorite story, old photo or meaningful memory from their time at Shadowbend.
The celebration is billed as an opportunity to reconnect with old friends, meet neighbors and visit with people who helped build the Y into a community fixture. The Shadowbend location, part of the YMCA of Greater Houston, held a similar "Reconnect and Celebration" reception for its 35th anniversary in October 2021.
