Cooking Girl, a Houston-area Sichuan restaurant chain, held its soft opening Monday, Aug. 10, at 7 Switchbud Place, Suite 194, in The Woodlands' Grogan's Mill Village Center.

Spokesperson Yi Liang confirmed the opening to Community Impact, which first reported the news. The Woodlands location marks the chain's expansion into Montgomery County, adding to existing locations across the Houston metro including Katy, Sugar Land, Montrose, the Heights and the Galleria area.

The menu leans on Sichuan specialties: Zang's lamb chop, chicken love taro, pyramid wings, Sichuan beef, walnut shrimp, sweet sour fish, dan dan noodles and spicy shrimp with Sichuan mixture. Dumplings, fried rice and noodle dishes round out the offerings.

Grogan's Mill Village Center is The Woodlands' original shopping destination, established in 1974 and originally called The Wharf. The center sits two miles from Interstate 45 and is in the middle of a revitalization that includes a new Montgomery County Library and Community Center. Retail space between 1,300 and 4,600 square feet remains available for lease, according to The Woodlands Development Company.

The village center also neighbors The Woodlands Farmers Market, which has operated every Saturday since 2008 with more than 60 vendors and over 1,200 weekly customers.
