Preschoolers can meet a live animal ambassador after hearing a spooky nature story at the Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center on Friday, Oct. 16.
The free event is the October installment of the Nature Center's recurring Story Time in the Wildlife Room series. This edition leans into the Halloween season with a "creepy crawly" animal ambassador to match the spooky theme, according to the center's event listing on Woodlands Online.
Space is limited.
There is no advance registration. Organizers ask families to arrive by the 10 a.m. start time to secure a spot in the Wildlife Room, where children hear a nature-themed read-aloud and then get a close-up visit from one of the center's resident animals.
The program is geared toward preschool-age children, making it one of the few structured nature experiences in the area designed specifically for the youngest learners. Each Story Time session pairs a picture-book reading with a live animal encounter in a controlled indoor setting at the Nature Center's facility on Riley Fuzzel Road in Spring.
The Nature Center sits inside what the Bayou Land Conservancy describes as the longest contiguous urban forested greenway in the country, with more than 300 acres of preserved forest surrounding the 11,000-square-foot building. Beyond Story Time, the center runs regular programming including Critter Chat, Beginners Birding Hike, a Homeschool Program and Junior Explorers, all free of charge.
