A 28-year-old Spring mother now faces felony charges after authorities say she failed to get medical help for her 2-year-old daughter, who was found unresponsive at a Cypresswood Drive gas station on Aug. 7 with injuries so severe the child is not expected to survive.
Jazmin Cisneros was arrested Tuesday, Aug. 11, and charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office. She was booked into the Harris County Jail.
Cisneros joins her boyfriend, Gerardo Gonzalez, 29, who was arrested Aug. 8 and charged with the same offense. Court records indicate Gonzalez admitted to striking the girl in the head multiple times, hitting her chest, lower back and buttocks, and stepping on her pelvis. The injuries likely caused a broken pelvis, lacerated liver and skull fracture, according to court records cited by KPRC 2.
The child is not expected to survive.
First response
Harris County Precinct 4 deputy constables, who patrol the Spring and Woodlands area, were already on scene at the Exxon station at 25819 Cypresswood Drive when Cisneros and Gonzalez arrived around 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 7, according to ABC13, citing the constable's office. The couple had driven roughly three minutes from their home on Rendezvous Court in Spring.
Deputies found the toddler unconscious and not breathing. They immediately began CPR and other life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. The girl was rushed to a nearby hospital, where staff discovered multiple life-threatening injuries, then airlifted to a second hospital for surgery.
Investigation and charges
Precinct 4 turned the case over to Harris County Sheriff's Office homicide detectives overnight Aug. 7 into Aug. 8. Gonzalez was arrested Aug. 8. At his probable cause hearing Aug. 9, Harris County magistrate judge Temple Ramming set bond at $1 million and imposed pre-trial conditions including house arrest and no contact with the victim's family.
"I've seen a lot of bad stuff the last 15 years of practicing criminal law. This is one of the worst," Ramming said at the Aug. 9 hearing, according to KPRC 2.
The sheriff's office alleges Cisneros knew her daughter had been physically abused but did not seek medical attention. No bond amount for Cisneros has been publicly reported.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said on X on Tuesday, Aug. 11, that the toddler remains hospitalized in critical condition and that the homicide investigation is ongoing.
Texas Child Protective Services confirmed it is also investigating the case. Neighbors told ABC13 the family had lived in the Spring-area home only a few months.
The child's name has not been released. No future court dates for either defendant have been announced.
