The hospital on Pinecroft Drive that Woodlands residents have known as St. Luke's for years will carry a new name starting in October: CommonSpirit - St. Luke's Hospital - The Woodlands.
St. Luke's Health announced Monday, Aug. 17 that all nine of its Greater Houston hospitals, its medical group and its foundation will add the CommonSpirit prefix to their names. The change aligns the local system with its national parent, CommonSpirit Health, one of the country's largest faith-based nonprofit health care organizations operating more than 2,300 clinics and 158 hospitals across 24 states.
The rebrand comes bundled with an expanded clinical partnership with Baylor College of Medicine. Under the new arrangement, BCM specialists will practice at St. Luke's community hospitals, giving patients at facilities like The Woodlands location broader access to academic medicine, research and subspecialty care. St. Luke's and BCM have jointly owned Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center since 2014, but the expanded collaboration extends that relationship into the community hospital network.
The Houston Business Journal described St. Luke's Health as the Houston area's fourth-largest health system.
"This expanded relationship and the introduction of the CommonSpirit name represents an evolution," said Dr. Augusto "Gus" Sepulveda, chief medical officer for CommonSpirit Health's Houston market. He added that the organization's mission remains the same and that care teams are committed to serving patients who have placed their trust in the system.
Jim Parisi, who has served as president of St. Luke's Health - The Woodlands, Lakeside and Springwoods Village Hospitals since January 2018, will oversee the local transition. The organization said the same care teams will remain in place while signage, logos and patient communications shift to the new branding over the coming months.
Nothing changes overnight.
St. Luke's Health was founded in 1954 and became part of CommonSpirit Health after the 2019 merger of Catholic Health Initiatives and Dignity Health. CommonSpirit employs more than 160,000 people nationwide and contributes more than $5 billion annually in charity care and community benefits.
The system is also investing in physical growth nearby. In June, St. Luke's broke ground on a $34 million, 40-room inpatient rehabilitation facility on its Springwoods Village campus in Spring, with an anticipated opening in summer 2027.
Patients will be introduced to the new identity through a "Becoming CommonSpirit" advertising campaign. No specific day in October has been announced for the switchover, and no public event tied to the rollout has been scheduled.
