Adults with special needs will get their own runway moment on Saturday, Sept. 19, when TEAM Abilities and Sparkle Events host "Sparkle & Shine: A Celebration of Confidence, Worth & Belonging" at the nonprofit's facility along the Highway 242 corridor near The Woodlands.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 8448 Hwy 242, Conroe, TX 77385.

Rachel Jelks, founder and executive director of TEAM Abilities, said the day is built around one idea: every participant walks in as themselves and leaves feeling celebrated.

"Confidence doesn't look the same on everyone, and it shouldn't have to," Jelks said, according to Woodlands Online. "Sparkle & Shine is about creating a place where our participants don't have to become anyone else to be celebrated. They get to walk in as themselves and know that they belong."

At the center of the event is the Shine Line, a runway walk where each participant shares a personal "I AM" statement, then receives a crown and sash. The presentation is not a competition. There are no winners or losers.

The schedule also includes an "I AM" craft station, a photo booth, snacks and refreshments.

Serving as guest host is Emma Jelks, the reigning 2026 Little Miss Black Greater Texas Princess, whose pageant platform encourages others to "Shine Bright." She will welcome participants and celebrate them throughout the morning.

Rachel Jelks, who previously worked as a nurse in direct care, founded TEAM Abilities to serve adults with special needs through Individualized Skills and Socialization programming and Community Living homes. The organization's name stands for "Together Everyone Achieves More."
