The Woodlands Township is accepting orders for engraved granite memorial tiles at "The Way Home" Veterans Memorial Monument in Town Green Park, with the next batch set for installation before Veterans Day.
Residents can purchase a black granite tile honoring any active-duty service member or veteran, living or deceased, from any branch of the U.S. military. Each tile is engraved and permanently installed as part of the Walk of Honor surrounding the monument's centerpiece sculpture at 2099 Lake Robbins Drive.
More than 700 tiles already line the walkway, according to a Township press release published Thursday, Aug. 13.
The Township installs new tiles twice a year, once before Memorial Day and once before Veterans Day. The next installation cycle falls ahead of Veterans Day on Nov. 11, though the Township has not published a specific order deadline. The monument
"The Way Home" was dedicated on Memorial Day, May 25, 2015, along the east edge of the Great Lawn near The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion. The program is open year-round.
Local sculptor Edd Hayes created the life-size bronze figures at its center, depicting two Woodlands-area residents who died in service: Army PFC Cory C. Kosters, killed in Iraq on March 5, 2007, and Army CPL Zach R. Endsley, killed in Afghanistan in July 2008.
The Walk of Honor surrounding the sculpture includes maps and historical data of major wars since World War II, along with bronze emblems for each military branch, according to Visit The Woodlands.
The monument sits adjacent to The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, giving the Walk of Honor high visibility among residents and visitors throughout the year. Town Green Park is open daily at 2099 Lake Robbins Drive.
