Woodland Art & Frame, the family-owned custom framing shop in Borough Park Shopping Center, is closing after 45 years in business.

Owner Cindy Plummer announced the closure Wednesday, Aug. 26, in a statement posted to Woodlands Online. She did not give a final day of operation or a reason for closing.

"Your loyalty has allowed our family business to thrive for 45 wonderful years, and we are deeply grateful for every frame we've crafted and every relationship we've built along the way," Plummer wrote.

The shop opened in 1981, founded by Dave Plummer. He had left a teaching career to learn the framing trade as an unpaid apprentice under Sherwood McCall, the framer for Houston Art and Frame, according to the business's website.

The roots run deeper. In the 1970s, Dave Plummer's mother owned Wishing Well Crafts, an arts and crafts shop on FM 1960. She needed a reliable framer after a near-lawsuit when a framer trimmed a valuable Dalhart Windberg print. That mishap pushed Dave into the trade.

Over four and a half decades, the shop framed family portraits, children's artwork, wedding photos, diplomas, military honors and keepsakes for customers across The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe and Oak Ridge. Plummer said in her statement that the business served "generations of families."

The shop's most recently listed hours were Tuesday through Saturday, noon to 5 p.m. No closing sale or final event has been announced.
