For $10, kids can meet Ariel, pose with pirates and hunt for hidden treasure at The Woodlands Children's Museum on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The nonprofit's Pirate and Mermaid Day runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the museum's Panther Creek Village Center location, 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280. All activities are included in the price of admission, which covers anyone age 1 and older. Children under 1 get in free.
The schedule packs character appearances throughout the morning and early afternoon. Ariel meet-and-greets are set for 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Pirate meet-and-greets follow at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Ms. Jan, the museum's storyteller, leads themed readings at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Coastal Cotton Candy and Pirate Popcorn will be served in the Atrium.
The event listing on Woodlands Online invites families to "board our version of the Jolly Roger and keep a close eye out for treasure and mermaids."
The museum, a 501(c)(3) started by a group of local mothers in 2001, now operates under interim executive director Jennifer Kraus. She took over in February after longtime leader Angela Colton stepped down following 18 years at the helm.
In an Aug. 6 press release about the museum's fall workshop series, Kraus said the organization's philosophy centers on the idea that "children learn best when they are engaged, encouraged, and having fun."
Tickets are available at bit.ly/TWCMtickets. The museum is open Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Tuesday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is closed Sunday and Monday.
