A local performing arts nonprofit is bringing jazz, Latin music, Motown and original theater to The Woodlands this fall, with a five-program season that opens Sept. 25 at The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church.

The Woodlands Diversion announced its 2026-27 lineup on Aug. 20, according to Hello Woodlands. The season runs through May 2027. Tickets are on sale now at thewoodlandsdiversion.org.

Artistic Director Matthew Everett said the season is meant to create experiences that feel "fresh, engaging and a little unexpected" while showcasing connections across genres and cultures.

The opener, "American Ecstasies," features Trio Duende: flutist Tyler Martin, cellist Caio Diniz and pianist Dr. James Palmer. They'll perform works by Kevin Day, Jennifer Higdon, Ned Rorem and Nikolai Kapustin, exploring intersections of jazz, Latin dance, European modernism and the American classical tradition. The concert begins at 7 p.m.

Here's the full season:

  • Sept. 25 — "American Ecstasies," featuring Trio Duende. The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church, 7 p.m.
  • Oct. 10 — "Lazos," celebrating Latin American musical traditions from classical and folk to popular music and jazz, with TWD musicians and guest artists. 7 p.m.
  • Dec. 5 — "Wintertide," blending holiday classics with works by Vivaldi, Corelli and Bach.
  • Feb. 6, 2027 — "Motown & Mozart," pairing W.A. Mozart with iconic Motown music. 7 p.m.
  • May 8, 2027 — "Letters to Mom," an original stage work blending live theater with chamber music, featuring compositions by Jessie Montgomery, Caroline Shaw, Germaine Tailleferre, Rachel Portman and others. 7 p.m.

The organization, which received a microgrant from The Woodlands Arts Council for the 2025-26 cycle, held last season's concerts at Lone Star College–Montgomery. The move to The Woodlands Community Presbyterian Church for the September opener brings the group's performances closer to its namesake community.

Venues for the remaining four programs have not been announced. Pricing and full details are available at thewoodlandsdiversion.org.

The season opener on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. is the next chance to catch The Woodlands Diversion live.
