Both of The Woodlands' public libraries are stacking their calendars with free programs the week of Aug. 17–22, giving teens prepping for the SAT, crafters looking for company and puzzle collectors a reason to walk through the doors.

The George & Cynthia Mitchell Library and the Kevin Brady Library are hosting more than two dozen events across six days, according to a schedule published by Woodlands Online. Every program is free and open to the public, though some require registration.

Teens and test prep

The Mitchell Library's Teen SAT Bootcamp returns Thursday, Aug. 20, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in Computer Lab Room 214. The program was created by a student who scored 1500 on the SAT, and teens ages 15–18 can drop in for as many sessions as they choose.

Registration for this week's session is full.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, the Mitchell Library partners with The Woodlands Test Prep to offer a free practice SAT exam from 9 to 10 a.m. for students ages 14–18. The Woodlands Test Prep evaluates results and provides feedback on areas to improve. Seating is limited, and registration is required through the company's website.

A Teen Uno Tournament on Monday, Aug. 17, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. rounds out the Mitchell teen lineup with prizes for first and second place. That event is also full.

At the Kevin Brady Library, teens ages 13–17 can sign up for a Bullet Journaling session on Tuesday, Aug. 18, from 4 to 5 p.m. All supplies are provided, and lo-fi music plays in the background.

Three book clubs meet during the week. The Mitchell Library's Adult Evening Book Club discusses "A Gentleman in Moscow" by Amor Towles on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at 6:30 p.m. Registration is full, but waitlist requests can be emailed to Aubrey Parker at [email protected]. The Nonfiction Book Club meets Thursday, Aug. 20, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. to discuss "Papyrus: The Invention of Books in the Ancient World" by Irene Vallejo. Light refreshments will be served.

The Kevin Brady Library closes the week with a Puzzle Swap on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 2 to 3 p.m. Bring a puzzle in its original box with pieces sealed in a Ziploc bag or the box taped shut. Puzzles missing pieces may only be swapped with other incomplete sets.
