Woodlands residents who need to register to vote or check their registration status can get free help Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Kevin Brady Library.

The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County is hosting the session from 10 a.m. to noon at the library, 2250 Buckthorne Pl. Volunteers will help with voter registration, answer questions about the voting process and provide election information, according to the library's event listing. No appointment is needed.

The timing matters. Monday, Oct. 5, is the last day to register for the Nov. 3 general election. Texas law requires registration 30 days before Election Day.

DPS error leaves thousands of Montgomery County records unprocessed

The deadline comes as Montgomery County election officials work through a backlog of nearly 35,000 voter registration records. A technology error at the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) left registrations and updates submitted through the DPS online driver's license portal undelivered to county election offices, some dating back to October 2025.

Officials in seven of Texas' 254 counties have confirmed receiving more than 178,000 backlogged records, Houston Public Media reported. Montgomery County's share is nearly 35,000, according to Woodlands Online, all of which must be processed before early voting begins Oct. 19.

"This is really out of left field," Chris McGinn, executive director of the Texas Association of County Election Officials, told ABC 13 on Sept. 24.

The backlogged applications include both new registrations and updates such as address changes. Anyone who submitted a registration by the deadline can still cast a provisional ballot if their name does not appear on the rolls, according to Woodlands Online.

How to check your status

The Texas Association of County Election Officials said in a Sept. 25 statement that county officials are working to ensure valid registrations submitted before the deadline will be processed. Residents can verify their registration at votetexas.org or contact the Montgomery County Elections office at elections.mctx.org.

Montgomery County had 464,410 registered voters as of November 2025, spread across 113 precincts.
