More than 1,200 runners will take over parts of Lake Woodlands Drive on Saturday, Oct. 10, prompting lane closures that could slow morning traffic across The Woodlands.
The Woodlands Township issued a traffic advisory Tuesday, Oct. 6, for the Memorial Hermann 10 for Texas 10-mile race, the 3.1 Armadillo Run 5K and the One 4 Texas Kids' Fun Run. The races finish at Northshore Park, 2505 Lake Woodlands Dr. Lane closures take effect at 6 a.m., one hour before the first race, and run through 10:30 a.m.
What's closing
The inside lane of Lake Woodlands Drive westbound from Lakeside Boulevard to Golden Sage Drive will be closed from 6 to 10:30 a.m. The inside lane eastbound from Golden Sage Drive to Windward Cove will also close during that window.
Two stretches face full closures. Lake Woodlands Drive eastbound from East Panther Creek to Lake Front Circle will shut down entirely. Residents of Windward Cove will still have neighborhood access, but all other traffic will be detoured to Woodlands Parkway. The eastbound lanes of the Lake Woodlands Bridge from Lakeside Boulevard to Lake Front Circle will also close completely.
How traffic will be managed
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will handle closures and reopenings along the route. Deputies will be stationed at every intersection and will allow cars through when there is a safe opportunity.
Race schedule
The One 4 Texas Kids' Fun Run begins at 7 a.m. The 3.1 Armadillo Run 5K starts at 7:30 a.m., followed by the 10-mile wheelchair division at 7:35 a.m. and the 10-mile race at 7:40 a.m. An awards ceremony is expected around 9:30 a.m.
The USA Track and Field-sanctioned event is produced by The Woodlands Township Parks and Recreation Department. There is no race-day registration or packet resale. Updates will be posted on the Township Parks and Recreation Facebook page.
Traffic hotline
The Township has set up a dedicated traffic hotline at 281-210-2099. The line will be staffed around the clock from Thursday, Oct. 8, through Saturday, Oct. 10. Residents can also email questions to [email protected].
