Fine arts students at Lone Star College-Montgomery can now pursue a new $1,000 scholarship created through a first-of-its-kind partnership with The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion.

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Arts Scholarships will split the $1,000 award into two $500 payments during the 2026–27 academic year, one in the fall 2026 semester and one in spring 2027, Woodlands Online first reported Friday, Oct. 2. A separate endowed scholarship will begin awarding $1,250 annually starting in fall 2027, creating a permanent funding stream for future students.

The scholarships cover all fine arts disciplines and the Live Entertainment Technology (LET) program at LSC-Montgomery's Creative Arts and Education division, known as CREATE. That division offers coursework in art, dance, music, theatre, visual communications, kinesiology, education, humanities and live entertainment technology. Katie Gruenhagen serves as program director for LET.

Recipients are preparing for careers in visual arts and design, performing arts, entertainment technology production, and arts administration and management, according to the announcement.

Dr. Michael Walsh, dean of Creative Arts and Education at LSC-Montgomery, called the awards "the first scholarships of their kind" at the campus. He credited the Lone Star College Foundation for securing the funding.

"The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion Arts Scholarships will be truly transformative for their recipients, and I look forward to seeing the impact they make on our students' futures," Walsh said in a joint statement Friday, Oct. 2.

Jeff Young, president and CEO of The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, said the endowed scholarship invests in local students so cost does not block their path. Young said the partnership helps "ensure that financial barriers don't stand in the way of their talent, passion and potential."

The Pavilion, a nonprofit venue at 2005 Lake Robbins Dr. in The Woodlands, has hosted performances since 1990. LSC-Montgomery's campus is at 3200 College Park Drive in Conroe.

Neither the announcement nor the college's arts program page lists application deadlines or eligibility requirements for the new scholarships. Students and families can contact LSC-Montgomery or the Lone Star College Foundation for details.
