Market Street and Houston Methodist Neal Cancer Center at The Woodlands will light Central Park and several surrounding buildings pink on Thursday, Oct. 1, to open Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
The free "Light it up Pink" event runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Market Street, 9595 Six Pines Drive, according to Woodlands Online. The pink illumination will stay up throughout October.
Attendees will receive a pink tote bag and a light-up baton. A photo station in front of The Audrey will honor breast cancer survivors, families and caregivers. That photo opportunity will remain available all month, not just on opening night.
The evening doubles as part of Market Street's Fall Concert Series, with band Hybrid 7 performing during the same 6 to 8:30 p.m. window. The band plays drum and bass, hip-hop and soul. The concert series runs every Thursday through Oct. 29 and is free and open to the public.
Throughout October, signage across Market Street will feature breast cancer facts provided by Houston Methodist. The messaging focuses on the importance of annual mammograms for women. Scented sleep masks will also be available at the Concierge desk and at select retailers during the month.
About one in eight women in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer during their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society.
