Two Woodlands Christian Academy graduates will captain the University of Pennsylvania sprint football team for the 2026 season.

Josh Johnson and Jacob Rios, both TWCA Class of 2023, were named among three captains for the season, Woodlands Online reported. The announcement came Friday, Sept. 25. Paul Tjoumakaris, a graduate of Ocean City High School in New Jersey, is the third captain.

Both are seniors and former Warriors who play at Penn, which competes in the Collegiate Sprint Football League (CSFL) alongside Army, Navy and Cornell. Sprint football follows standard football rules with one key difference: every player must meet a strict weight limit. The sport dates to the 1930s and gives smaller, skilled athletes a path to competitive college play.

Johnson is a two-way player who earned First Team All-CSFL honors on defense for the second time in his career, according to a Penn Athletics season preview. During the 2025 season, he led the Quakers with four interceptions and three pass breakups. He also recorded 21 total tackles. On offense, he threw for 742 yards and four touchdowns across all eight games.

Rios anchors the defensive side. He appeared in five games during the 2025 season, totaling 14 tackles with a season-high five against Caldwell.

"They lead by example, hold their teammates accountable, and embody the grit, relentlessness, and purpose we expect from this program," first-year head coach Jon Dupont said when the captains were announced. Dupont holds the William R. Wagner head coaching title and is in his first season leading the program.

Jamie Spikerman, communications manager at The Woodlands Christian Academy, shared the announcement with local media and said the school is proud to see its former Warriors recognized for collegiate leadership.

Penn opened the 2026 season at 1-1 overall and 0-1 in CSFL South play. The Quakers fell to Navy 6-27 on Friday, Sept. 18, then beat St. Thomas Aquinas 34-26 on Friday, Sept. 25. Penn hosts Army on Friday, Oct. 2, at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+.
