The Woodlands High School's Model United Nations club will host more than 300 students at its TWHSMUN VII conference on Saturday, Nov. 14.

The event takes place at the school's main campus and draws delegates from across the Houston area, the club announced on Instagram on Aug. 16. Seven committees will cover topics including the environment, technology and humanitarian concerns. No prior experience is required.

The club, known as TWHSMUN, has grown to more than 100 members since its founding in 2022. It meets every Wednesday in LGI 1 under sponsor Ms. Leone, according to The Caledonian, the school's student newspaper.

The conference comes after a strong showing at the New York Model United Nations (NYMUN) international conference in March. Ten of 17 TWHS members won awards, competing against 200 delegates in their group.

"The most exciting part about TWHSMUN planning is seeing everything come together and working with our officer team," said Malika Muratova, a junior and club officer. "Nothing feels better than watching a local conference become an amazing experience and a huge part of our success as a club."

The club describes TWHSMUN VII as a learning event that prepares students for larger competitions, including the Houston Area Model United Nations (HAMUN) at the University of Houston and NYMUN in New York. Members are each assigned a country to research and must submit a position paper before attending. During committee sessions, delegates present their findings and draft resolutions.

Senior and club member Livia Karahan said the conference helps students develop public speaking and critical thinking skills while deepening their understanding of global issues.

The club's reach extends beyond graduation. Claire Templet, a 2026 TWHS graduate, now heads the Press committee at HAMUN, where delegates compete to produce the best report on other committees' progress.

Club officers run delegate workshops throughout the year to prepare members for major conferences. The club expects to add members during the 2026–2027 school year after crossing 100 members last year.

Ms. Leone, the club's sponsor, said she looks forward to "…witnessing the hard work of the students and the new milestones that we create."
