Fifth and sixth graders in the Conroe High School and future Timber Mill High School feeder zones will start classes at a brand-new campus on Wednesday, Aug. 12, when Janene Fowler Intermediate School opens its doors for the first time.

The school, located at 3600 Willow Valley Court in Conroe on FM 1314 north of Crighton Road, is one of several campuses funded by the $1.8 billion bond package Conroe ISD voters approved in 2023 to address rapid district growth. Principal Amber DeBeaumont will lead the campus, according to the school's official website.

Staff and volunteers already have boots on the ground. Conroe ISD posted on X on Tuesday, July 28, that the campus held a "Pallet Party" in July, with teams unpacking supplies and assembling classrooms ahead of the opening.

Who's affected

Under attendance boundaries the Conroe ISD Board of Trustees approved on July 15, 2025, Fowler Intermediate will draw students from both the existing Conroe High School feeder zone and the future Timber Mill High School feeder zone. That includes families in Grand Central Park's Central and South Villages, according to a community update from Grand Central Park.

The specific list of elementary schools feeding into Fowler was still listed as "Coming Soon" on the campus website as of Tuesday, July 28.

The namesake

The campus honors Janene Elizabeth Fowler, a Texas A&M graduate who spent 31 years teaching junior high science in Conroe ISD at Knox, Branch Crossing, and McCullough Junior High Schools. Fowler also served as chair of the science department at her campuses before her death on December 15, 2018.

"Janene had a passion for science, her students, and colleagues. She always had time for anyone who needed something, whether it was a listening ear, a fierce advocate, or advice," reads a tribute on the school's About page.

Mr. Fowler toured the finished campus around Thursday, July 2, according to a Conroe ISD Facebook post.

What families need to know

The school mascot is the Falcons.

The first day of school district-wide is Wednesday, August 12, according to Conroe ISD's back-to-school page. Families new to Conroe ISD who still need to register can do so at the district-wide New Student Registration Day on Saturday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Walter P. Jett Teacher Training Center in Shenandoah (19043 David Memorial Drive) or Peet Junior High in Conroe (1895 Longmire Road).

Looking ahead, Lynn Cartwright Junior High School is scheduled to open on FM 1314 north of Crighton Road in August 2027, serving seventh and eighth graders in the same Conroe and Timber Mill feeder zones.
