The agency that patrols The Woodlands through its dedicated Woodlands Patrol Division got a staffing boost the week of July 28, when the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office brought on five detention officers and one dispatcher.

Sheriff Wesley Doolittle also announced promotions for three current employees, who moved into the roles of Dispatch Supervisor, Executive Assistant, and Records Specialist, according to the agency's official Instagram post on Tuesday, July 28.

The detention officer hires come as the county continues to manage a growing jail population. The Texas Commission on Jail Standards unanimously approved a 64-bed expansion of the Montgomery County Jail in February 2025, citing the county's population growth to 711,354 residents in 2023. The jail's main facility holds 1,253 inmates.

The new dispatcher joins a unit Doolittle has worked to protect from overload. In March 2025, the sheriff introduced a dedicated non-emergency dispatch number (936-538-5900) specifically to keep dispatchers available for 911 calls and law enforcement requests.

"We are committed to ensuring that our dispatchers are available to respond swiftly to emergency calls and law enforcement needs," Doolittle said in March 2025 when announcing that non-emergency line.

The hires fit a broader staffing push at the seventh-largest sheriff's office in Texas. Fourteen cadets graduated from the agency's Jail Command Corrections Academy in March 2025 after 225 hours of training in inmate supervision, crisis intervention, and emergency response. That pipeline kept moving. In June 2026, 17 more cadets completed the Basic Peace Officer Academy.

As of July 2024, the MCSO was budgeted for more than 1,000 employees, including roughly 574 sworn peace officer positions and 461 non-sworn roles.
