A cold front is forecast to push severe storms through The Woodlands on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3, bringing heavy rain, strong winds and hail right as voters head to the polls.
The heaviest rain is expected from late morning through the evening hours, according to FOX 26 Houston meteorologist Allison Gargaro. Southeast Texas is under a 1-in-4 risk of flooding, the station reported.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. statewide. That means voters who wait until midday or later could face the worst of the weather.
The Houston Chronicle reported the cold front is expected to reach Southeast Texas by Tuesday afternoon or evening. The National Weather Service's Houston-Galveston office said conditions could favor strong storms along the front but noted uncertainty remains between forecast models on timing and severity.
The storm is part of a larger system moving across the country. Fox Weather reported severe thunderstorms could develop across parts of the South on Election Day as warm, moist air collides with the approaching cold front.
What Woodlands voters should know
Montgomery County voters must cast ballots at their assigned precinct polling location on Election Day. Montgomery County Elections lists more than a dozen Woodlands-area sites, including The Woodlands High School Ninth Grade Campus on Branch Crossing Drive, the George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell Library on Ashlane Way, and The Woodlands Recreation Center at Bear Branch Park on Research Forest Drive.
Texas Secretary of State Robert S. Howden urged voters to confirm their polling location and bring an approved form of ID. Voters can check their registration and find their assigned location at VoteTexas.gov or by calling 1-800-252-VOTE, according to Woodlands Online.
Strong early turnout already logged
More than 104,000 Montgomery County residents voted during the first week of early voting, according to Woodlands Online. That figure represents more than 22 percent of all registered voters in the county. The Kevin Brady Library in The Woodlands drew the most traffic, with more than 14,400 voters in that first week alone.
Early voting ended Oct. 30. Voters who have not yet cast a ballot must vote on Election Day at their assigned precinct.
After the front
Once the storms clear, cooler air settles in. FOX 26 Houston's forecast calls for highs in the 70s and morning lows in the 50s from Wednesday through the start of the weekend.
