Thirteen Conroe ISD elementary schools across The Woodlands will host Walk and Roll to School Day events over two weeks starting Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The Woodlands Township Neighborhood Services Department is coordinating the annual program, which pairs morning walks and bike rides with safety education, music, mascots and a giveaway item at each campus. Township Park Rangers, Conroe ISD Police and Harris County Constable Precinct 4 officers will be on hand to help families practice safe routes.

The event is part of a national observance, according to the Township.

Week 1:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 29 — Sally K. Ride Elementary, 4920 W. Panther Creek Dr. (Panther Creek)
  • Wednesday, Sept. 30 — Deretchin Elementary, 11000 Merit Oaks Dr. (Sterling Ridge)

Safety reminders

The Township issued safety tips for families walking, biking or scootering to school: wear a properly fitted helmet when biking or riding a scooter, use reflective gear and bike lights, follow all traffic signs and signals, walk bikes and scooters across intersections using crosswalks, and slow down when passing others on pathways.

All events are free.

Beyond event day

The Township encouraged families to keep the habit going after the events end by starting a neighborhood walking school bus or bicycle train, tracking steps or miles as a family, or using a scavenger hunt along the route.
