Arts educators and nonprofits in The Woodlands and Montgomery County have until Monday, Oct. 5, to apply for funding through The Woodlands Arts Council's annual Microgrant Program.
Applications opened Monday, Sept. 7, for two grant categories, according to Hello Woodlands. The Dr. David Gottlieb Education Microgrant funds literary, performing and visual arts projects for educators and organizations. The Performing Arts Microgrant, offered in partnership with The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion, supports projects that expand access to performing arts in Montgomery County.
The program is now in its fifth year.
It has generated nearly $300,000 in local arts impact since launching, according to The Woodlands Arts Council. In the 2024–2025 cycle, the council and the Pavilion together awarded more than $75,000 to 28 schools and nonprofit organizations.
The most recent round, for 2025–2026, funded 12 performing arts projects and 15 visual arts projects across more than 20 local schools and nonprofits. Recipients included The Woodlands High School Art Trust, The Woodlands Symphony Orchestra, The Woodlands Children's Museum and Caney Creek High School, which received four grants, the most of any single recipient.
One example of the program's reach: the nonprofit Reading Is Revolutionary used a microgrant to bring award-winning author and illustrator Angela Dominguez to Hailey Elementary in April 2026, in partnership with Macmillan Publishers. Every student received a book, with bilingual picture books going to younger grades and Dominguez's Texas Bluebonnet Award-nominated graphic novel going to older students.
Jenny Carattini-Wright, the council's CEO and executive director, described the program's mission at a January check presentation ceremony that brought all grant recipients together for the first time.
"When we put funding directly into the hands of educators and organizations who are creating opportunities every day, we are not only supporting projects, we are expanding access to the arts for thousands of students and families," Carattini-Wright said at the January event.
Grant amounts in past cycles have ranged from $250 to $5,000 per project. Eligibility details and the application are available at thewoodlandsartscouncil.org/p/programs/microgrants.
