The Woodlands Children's Museum will stay open past sundown on Friday, Oct. 16, for an evening built around the creatures that come alive at night.

Fangtastic Fun Friday runs from 5 to 8 p.m. at the museum's Panther Creek Village Center location, 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280, according to Woodlands Online. Tickets are $12 per person for anyone over age 1 and are available at woodlandschildrensmuseum.org.

The museum normally closes at 4 p.m. on weekdays and 5 p.m. on Saturdays, so the after-dark format marks a rare shift. Regular general admission runs $10 per person, making the special-event ticket a small step up for three hours of evening programming.

Children will meet screech owls named Jack and Lucy and an opossum named Walter during live critter visits. A Bat Cave station lets kids use flashlights to hunt for nighttime creatures and learn how bats navigate using echolocation.

Other stations include a wingspan comparison where children measure their arm span against different owl species, a Camouflage Scavenger Hunt through the museum and an animal x-ray light table.

Interim Executive Director Jennifer Kraus said the event gives families a chance to explore what happens after the sun sets. "Fangtastic Fun Friday is a way for children to learn more about their surroundings and discover that the world doesn't go to sleep after the sun goes down," Kraus said in a museum announcement.

A Twilight Tales story time rounds out the schedule. Each child takes home two art projects included with admission: a torn paper owl collage and a bat hat.
