The Woodlands Fire Department will open the doors of its Central Fire Station apparatus bay on Wednesday, Nov. 11, for a free Veterans Day Tribute honoring U.S. military veterans.
The ceremony runs from 4 to 5 p.m. at 9951 Grogan's Mill Road. According to The Woodlands Township's event page, the program includes a formal presentation of colors, musical performances, remarks from local dignitaries and light refreshments. The department, led by Chief Palmer Buck, hosts the tribute in partnership with the Township.
The event page describes the tribute as an annual ceremony.
Residents can also bring donations for troops. A care package drop-off will run throughout the ceremony, and a Village Troop Donation Challenge asks donors to name which Village of The Woodlands they represent when dropping off items. The Village with the most donations will receive an award.
The Township's recommended care package list flags protein bars, protein powder and board games as top requests. Handwritten cards and letters are listed as the most important items to send. Other recommended donations include K-Cups for Keurig machines, beef jerky, powder drink mixes and game books. Chocolate is accepted only from October through February. No expired or canned food is accepted.
Admission is free.
Residents who cannot attend the Nov. 11 event can deliver donations to The Woodlands Township Town Hall at 2801 Technology Forest Blvd. Donations are accepted there Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., through Monday, Nov. 16. Donors should mention their Village when dropping off items.
