The Woodlands Fire Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office will face off in a free softball game on Sunday, Sept. 27, at McCullough Junior High School.

The Boots vs. Badges Softball Game runs from 4 to 7 p.m. at the school's Scotland Yard field, 3800 S. Panther Creek Drive. The event, listed on Woodlands Online, pairs the game with a car show, a Kid Zone, and free hot dogs and hamburgers while supplies last.

The Hot Rods & Home Runs Car Display will feature The Woodlands Car Club's Community Car Showcase, with custom and classic vehicles from across Montgomery County. Six awards will be handed out on-site: Best of Show, Best Paint, Most Unique, Kids' Choice, Best Truck and Best Import.

The Woodlands Car Club, founded in 2001, has donated more than $175,000 to more than 100 nonprofits over 25 years. Dana Pritchard, the club's president and a founding member, said in an Aug. 11 announcement that the club grew from a straightforward goal. "Looking back at the early days, our goal was to create a place where people could enjoy their passion for cars while giving something meaningful to the community," Pritchard said.

The softball game is billed as part of National Night Out celebrations, though The Woodlands Township's official National Night Out falls a week later on Sunday, Oct. 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. The township's announcement lists a Packet Pick-Up Day on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., where block party hosts can grab balloons, giveaways and yard signs.

The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office South Patrol Crime Prevention Unit has helped organize more than 300 National Night Out (NNO) events as of 2024, according to an MCSO press release. The township earned a 2025 Texas NNO award in the 100,000–300,000 population category from the Texas Crime Prevention Association.

Admission to the Sept. 27 game and car show is free. No registration is required.
