Storytimes, maker-space orientations and a book club fill both Woodlands library branches the week of Aug. 31 through Sept. 4.
The George & Cynthia Mitchell Library at 8125 Ashlane Way and the Kevin Brady Library at 2250 Buckthorne Place will hold programs every weekday, according to the libraries' published schedule. All events are free and open to the public. Both locations close Saturday, Sept. 5, for the Labor Day holiday and reopen Monday, Sept. 7, at 9 a.m.
Storytimes across both branches
Parents and caregivers have options every weekday morning. At the Mitchell Library, Book Babies Storytime for children ages 0–18 months runs Monday, Aug. 31, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Family Storytime for ages 3–5 follows Tuesday, Sept. 1, and Wednesday, Sept. 2, with sessions at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Entrance is first-come, first-served.
The Kevin Brady Library holds Preschool Storytime for ages 3 and up Monday, Aug. 31, at 9:15 and 10 a.m. Toddler Storytime for ages 18 months to 3 years runs Tuesday, Sept. 1, at the same times. Baby & Me Storytime for infants under 18 months meets Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 9:15 and 10 a.m.
Adults: mahjong, needlecraft and a book club
Adult Mahjong (Chinese version) meets at the Mitchell Library on Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. No experience is needed. The Kevin Brady Library hosts Intermediate Mah Jongg (Mandarin version) the same day from 12:30 to 3 p.m. Registration is required; call 936-522-2699.
Knit & Stitch, open to anyone ages 18 and up who knits, crochets or embroiders, meets at the Mitchell Library on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Participants bring their own supplies.
The Fiction Book Club for Adults gathers at the Mitchell Library on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. The September pick is The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese.
Innovation Lab orientations at Kevin Brady
The Kevin Brady Library's Innovation Lab runs several maker-space orientations. Sublimation Printing Orientation sessions cover the Sawgrass SG1000 printer and heat press on Monday, Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 1 and 6 p.m. Cricut Orientation sessions run Monday and Tuesday at 3 p.m. A 3D Printer Orientation is set for Wednesday, Sept. 2, at 1 p.m. Space is limited. Teens ages 13–18 must be accompanied by an adult for all lab sessions. Registration is required.
Kids and teens
Brain Benders, featuring puzzles, games and LEGO blocks for ages 6–11, meets at the Mitchell Library on Thursday, Sept. 3, from 10 to 11 a.m. No registration is needed.
Teen Journaling Hour at the Kevin Brady Library runs Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 4 to 5 p.m. for ages 13–17. All supplies are provided. Registration is required.
Stories & Scribbles, a reading and writing club for ages 8–12, meets at the Kevin Brady Library on Friday, Sept. 4, from 4 to 5 p.m. The book is The Lion of Mars by Jennifer L. Holm. Participants should bring their own copy. Registration is required.
Other highlights
Instructor Lisa Cielencki leads Propagate Plants at the Kevin Brady Library on Friday, Sept. 4, from 1 to 2 p.m., teaching residents how to grow new plants from cuttings. Registration is required.
The Kevin Brady Library also hosts the first session of The Woodlands Township's SMART (Safe, Mindful, Aware, Resilient Teens) Teen Series on Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Special Agent Kareem Vaughn and a Conroe ISD officer will lead a session on prescription drug dangers for ages 11 and up.
