Six candidates will be on the ballot Tuesday, Nov. 3, as Woodlands Township voters fill all four at-large seats on the Board of Directors.
Polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., according to a Township press release published Nov. 2. Voters in Montgomery County and Harris County portions of the Township can find their assigned polling locations at elections.mctx.org and harrisvotes.com.
Position 3 is the only contested race. Three candidates are vying for that seat: Priscila Young, Nick Tran and Lisa Gilmore. The remaining three positions each have a single candidate: Lee Wilson for Position 1, Linda Nelson for Position 2 and Craig Eissler for Position 4.
Each seat carries a two-year term. The positions are unpaid and elected at large, meaning all registered Township voters in both counties may vote on every race.
Who's running
In candidate interviews published by Hello Woodlands, each candidate described their priorities.
Wilson, a business owner who said he grew up in the area and returned in 2010, listed public safety, keeping taxes low and attracting businesses while preserving the natural environment as his top three priorities.
Nelson said she has more than 30 years working at Memorial Hermann and two terms on the Township board. She named protecting quality of life, planning responsibly for the future and strengthening the community as her priorities.
The three Position 3 candidates split along similar themes. Young, who described herself as a mental health and autism advocate and nonprofit founder, said her priorities are public safety, fiscal responsibility and resident advocacy. Tran, a combat veteran who said he served 13 years in the U.S. Army and later worked for a Fortune 500 oil and gas company, listed public safety, fiscal discipline and accountability, and preserving the character of The Woodlands. Gilmore, who said she has more than 20 years in government and public service, listed public safety, low taxes and new revenue sources. She said more than 70% of Township revenue comes from sales and use-related sources, including hotel occupancy and mixed beverage taxes.
Eissler said he is completing his first term and serves as vice chairman. He listed public safety, economic development, and traffic and mobility as his top priorities.
Harris County ballot issue
Some Harris County voters may have received early-voting ballots that did not include the Township board race. The Township said the error affected ballots issued between Oct. 19 and Oct. 28 and that approximately 68 voters were potentially affected, according to Hello Woodlands. The Township said Harris County has corrected the error.
Results
The Township said consolidated results will be posted on its website after both counties report final vote counts for all precincts.
