Seventeen Conroe ISD high school students met Oct. 27 for the first Superintendent's Student Advisory Panel, a new group that will flag problems and propose fixes across the district.

The panel draws one member from each feeder zone, according to the district. That includes zones serving The Woodlands-area high schools, though the district did not name individual participants. Members will raise student concerns, discuss challenges and work on solutions throughout the school year.

Their first project has a name: "No One Outside the Circle."

The fall initiative asks students to welcome new classmates, invite peers to clubs and school events, and make room at the lunch table. The district said the focus is on small, everyday actions students can take to support one another.

Superintendent Dr. David Vinson sat in on the Oct. 27 meeting to hear students' ideas and concerns. He encouraged them to recognize their ability to help shape the future, telling the group: "Hope is believing that tomorrow can be better than today."

During the session, students discussed ways to build school pride, increase involvement and help classmates develop strong connections on campus. They also looked at the character traits of Caring and Giving from The Texas Standard, the district's character framework.

Panel members proposed several communication tools: a student-accessible website, a way to submit ideas and feedback, and a student-led podcast called "Lead the Way." The district has not said whether those proposals have been approved. The proposed first episode, "Leading by Example: Building Stronger Schools," would focus on ways students can take initiative.

The panel will keep meeting throughout the school year, with "No One Outside the Circle" as its first order of business. The district has not announced a date for the next session.
