More than 2,000 students in South Montgomery County will receive free school supplies this fall through Interfaith of The Woodlands' annual Kits 4 Kids program, which is collecting donations now through Aug. 31.

School starts soon. Conroe ISD's first day is Wednesday, Aug. 12, and the nonprofit is asking residents, businesses, churches, and community groups to help fill the gap for families who can't afford supplies on their own.

"Every child deserves the opportunity to start the school year feeling prepared and supported," Missy Herndon, president and CEO of Interfaith of The Woodlands, said in a news release reported by Community Impact Newspaper.

The most requested items include themed backpacks, markers, crayons, notebooks, binders, glue sticks, pocket folders, pencils, and headphones, according to Interfaith's event page.

How to help

Residents can drop off supplies at Interfaith of The Woodlands, 4242 Interfaith Way, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Online donations and an Amazon wish list are also available through the nonprofit's website. For questions about donating, hosting a supply drive, or volunteering, contact Desarae Balerio at 281-367-1230 or [email protected].

The drive opened Tuesday, June 30, and runs through Monday, Aug. 31.
