Lone Star College-Montgomery students are getting face time with local employers through a career-readiness program that puts company representatives in front of them before graduation day.
The Maverick MVP (Most Valuable Professional) program uses panel presentations to connect students with area businesses, according to Woodlands Online. This semester, students heard from two companies: Pref-Tech, an enterprise security firm with a Conroe office, and BubbleUp, a digital marketing agency based in The Woodlands.
Matthew Samford, LSC-Montgomery dean of student success, completion and retention, said networking matters for students entering the workforce.
"Building relationships is critical in today's work environment," Samford said. "Learning to network with other professionals can lead to industry knowledge and long-term professional growth."
The program is open to students exploring career paths or preparing to enter the job market. According to the college's Maverick MVP page, it connects employers and industry professionals with students "seeking career insight, encouragement, and opportunities for professional growth."
Employers can also sign up. The college invites industry partners to share workplace expectations and introduce students to their fields.
Pref-Tech designs, builds, migrates and services enterprise security environments. The company opened a Conroe office on Jan. 15 at 2346 FM 1484, according to a company announcement. BubbleUp operates out of The Woodlands.
Samford said the employer panels gave students practical insights and helped them develop workplace skills and learn how to navigate their professional paths.
Spring registration for Maverick MVP is underway. Students can reach the program by emailing [email protected] with their student ID and contact number.
