The Montgomery County District Attorney's Office promoted David Stovall from sergeant to captain of its Investigations Bureau on Tuesday, Aug. 4, making him only the second person to hold that rank in the office's history.

Stovall's wife, son and daughter stood beside him during the promotional ceremony, according to Montgomery County Police Reporter.

The Investigations Bureau is the investigative arm of District Attorney Michael R. Holley's office, supporting the prosecution of crimes committed across Montgomery County, including The Woodlands area. The bureau's work underpins cases that move through the county court system, from property crimes to violent offenses.

Stovall joined the DA's Office in 2020 after serving as a sergeant with the Travis County District Attorney's Office in Austin. He holds a Master of Science in Criminal Justice Leadership and Management from Sam Houston State University. Officials said the advanced degree reflects his commitment to professional growth and public service.

Office leadership described Stovall as an integral part of the team, praising the experience and steady guidance he brings to the office daily. The DA's Office also announced the promotion on its official Facebook page, calling the milestone a point of pride for the agency.

The identity of the first person to hold the captain rank at the DA's Office was not disclosed in the announcement.

Stovall's promotion marks six years with the Montgomery County office since he arrived in 2020. He now leads the bureau's investigative operations out of the DA's Office at 207 W. Phillips St. in Conroe.
