Montgomery County voters have cast 78,027 ballots through the first five days of early voting for the Nov. 3 general election, running 28% ahead of the same point in the 2022 midterm.

The unofficial turnout figures, first reported by Montgomery County Police Reporter journalist Scott Engle, show 71,334 in-person votes and 6,693 mail ballots through Friday, Oct. 23. At the same point in 2022, 55,884 people had voted in person.

The county's official voter roster, maintained by Elections Administrator Suzie Harvey, lists 488,086 registered voters as of Sunday, Oct. 25. That means roughly one in six registered voters has already cast a ballot. The Montgomery County Police Reporter cited a figure of about 461,000 registered voters; the county's own roster shows the higher number.

Early voting opened Monday, Oct. 19, when 18,837 people cast ballots, according to the Montgomery County Elections Commission. That fell short of the more than 20,000 who voted on the first day of the 2024 presidential election but set a strong pace for a midterm year. The Texas Tribune reported that Montgomery County experienced record midterm turnout on opening day.

The trend extends beyond Montgomery County. KHOU reported more than 630,000 votes across Harris, Fort Bend, Montgomery and Galveston counties through Thursday, Oct. 22, though that total did not include mail ballots from Fort Bend or Galveston counties.
