Thrive Offline will host a two-night forum on artificial intelligence and children at the Kevin Brady Community Center and Library in The Woodlands on Oct. 13 and Oct. 27.
The event, called "Discerning AI for our Kids," is open to parents, grandparents and teens, according to a Woodlands Online listing. No tech background is needed.
The Oct. 13 session runs 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and is titled "Watch & Learn." It will cover foundational questions: What is AI? What is artificial general intelligence, or AGI? How should families think about using it? The Oct. 27 session, titled "Engage," shifts to an expert panel and open community discussion where attendees can bring their own questions.
Gayle Cheatham, a former business consultant and certified coach, founded Thrive Offline in 2025 after co-founding the Look Up Nonprofit in 2023. The organization focuses on helping families use technology with intention rather than by default. Hello Woodlands named Thrive Offline its Nonprofit of the Month in August.
The group also runs a Youth Board program called "Youth Resilience in a Digital World," open to people ages 15 to 26, that gives young participants nonprofit board experience while co-creating programs on screen time, social media and AI challenges. Thrive Offline was selected as one of 29 organizations for a Hogg Foundation Texas Capacity Building and Resiliency pilot grant, according to the organization's LinkedIn page.
Panel members for the Oct. 27 session have not been announced. A start time for that evening has not been listed.
