The Woodlands Township will hand out free native milkweed and seed packets Saturday, Sept. 12, at a Fall Pollinator Pop-Up at Bear Branch Recreation Center, 5310 Research Forest Drive.
The giveaway runs from 9 to 11 a.m. and is first-come, first-served while supplies last, according to an event listing on Woodlands Online.
The Township said native milkweed and other plants offered at the pop-up provide food and habitat for monarchs, bees and other pollinators. Fall is a good time to add native species to a home landscape, the Township said, because the plants help build resilient yards that support wildlife year-round.
The pop-up is part of a broader push by the Township on pollinator-friendly landscaping. In July, the Township's Environmental Services Department and volunteers from Critter Control built a new pollinator garden at Wendtwoods Park. The Township also maintains a free Seed Library at Town Hall, 2801 Technology Forest Blvd., where residents can take up to three seed packets per visit.
