Fireworks will light up Waterway Square on Sunday, Sept. 6, as The Woodlands Township hosts a free Labor Day Celebration. The event runs from 5 to 9 p.m. at 31 Waterway Square Place.

Shake Down Band HTX takes the stage at 5 p.m. with a variety set that runs through the evening, according to the Township's announcement. Children's activities include face painting and balloon art, and entertainers will roam the plaza. The fireworks finale is scheduled for approximately 8:55 p.m., weather permitting.

Lankford's Burgers is sponsoring pie-eating contests for youth at 6 p.m. and adults at 7 p.m. On-site registration opens at 5 p.m., and spots fill quickly, the Township's parks listing notes.

A beverage booth will be on site. Coolers, picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs are welcome; glass is prohibited. The Township encourages attendees to grab dinner at nearby restaurants before or after the event.

The holiday weekend starts a day earlier at Creekwood Park, where The Woodlands Kiwanis Club hosts its 35th Annual Kids Fishing Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 5. The tournament is open to ages 2 through 16 at 3883 S. Panther Creek Dr.

Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m., with fishing starting at 8 a.m. and wrapping up at noon. Free bait is provided, but participants need their own rods, reels and tackle. The morning includes music, free refreshments, hot dogs and an awards ceremony, according to a Hello Woodlands event guide.

Nine Township pools reopen for the season's final weekend. Hours are noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5; 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6; and noon to 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7.

The open pools: Cranebrook, Creekwood, Falconwing, Harper's Landing, Sawmill, Shadowbend, Rob Fleming Aquatic Center, Windvale and Wendtwoods. Monday, Sept. 7, is the last swim day of 2026.

The Woodlands Car Club holds its monthly Cars & Coffee for a Cause at Market Street on Sunday, Sept. 6, from 6 to 10 a.m. Hyatt Centric – The Woodlands at Market Street features live music from Ryan Pinnick on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 6 to 10 p.m.

Riva Row Boat House is open Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday with kayaks, stand-up paddleboards and swan pedal boats. Texas TreeVentures aerial adventure course at Rob Fleming Park is open Friday, Sept. 4, through Monday.

Houston Restaurant Weeks wraps up Monday, Sept. 7. The 38-day dining event benefits the Houston Food Bank, with participating restaurants offering prix fixe menus.

The Woodlands Township said on its official X account Sept. 2 that all Township offices and both recreation centers will be closed Monday, Sept. 7. The Woodlands Express bus service will not run that day.
