Conroe ISD's newest high school has a mascot: the Stallions.
The district announced on X on Saturday, Aug. 1, that Timber Mill High School will open in August 2027 at 2700 North Loop 336 in Conroe, adjacent to Stockton Junior High, Bozman Intermediate, and Patterson Elementary. The campus will hold up to 3,800 students.
The reveal gives families in the Timber Mill feeder zone their first official look at the school's identity. Students from both the Conroe High School and Caney Creek High School attendance zones will feed into the new campus, according to boundaries the CISD Board of Trustees approved on July 15, 2025. Families in Grand Central Park's Central and South Villages are among those zoned into the Timber Mill system.
How the name was chosen
The school's name nods to Conroe's origins. Former Union captain Isaac Conroe established a sawmill east of the north-south railroad tracks in the 1800s, and the timber industry that followed gave the town its name. The district received 228 public name submissions before selecting Timber Mill, according to Your Conroe News. Other finalists included Conroe East High School, San Jacinto High School, and Shadow Lake High School.
Construction underway
Construction was already in progress as of June 2026, when the district shared site photos on social media. Timber Mill is part of the $1.8 billion bond package Conroe ISD voters approved in November 2023 to fund eight new schools and eight additions and renovations across the district.
The campus won't open alone. Lynn Cartwright Junior High School, also under construction on FM 1314 north of Crighton Road, is scheduled to open in August 2027 serving seventh and eighth graders in the same feeder zones. A new 32,000-square-foot North Livestock Facility opened for the 2026–2027 school year to serve Conroe High School FFA, Caney Creek FFA, and the future Timber Mill FFA program.
As we reported July 28, Janene Fowler Intermediate School opens Wednesday, Aug. 12, for fifth and sixth graders in the Conroe and Timber Mill feeder zones, giving families in the pipeline a new campus already in place.
