Graduating high school seniors in The Woodlands area can apply for up to $8,000 in college scholarships starting Thursday, Nov. 5.
The Woodlands Arts Council (TWAC) is opening its Student Art Scholarship program for the 2027 cycle, with $40,000 in planned awards, Woodlands Online reported. Jenny Carattini-Wright, TWAC executive director and CEO, said the council plans to award $40,000 in scholarships for the 2027 cycle to support young artists in the community.
The application window runs through Jan. 5, 2027. Students must be available for invite-only portfolio interviews on Jan. 15 or Jan. 16, 2027.
Who can apply
Applicants must be graduating high school seniors living in one of 23 eligible Montgomery County and Woodlands-area zip codes. Students may submit work in visual arts, literary arts or both.
Each submission requires a portfolio of at least three original works. Visual arts categories include 2D (drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, digital) and 3D (sculpture, jewelry, ceramics, glass, mixed media, animation). Literary arts entries cover short fiction, short nonfiction and poetry, with a 500-word limit per piece.
Giving Tuesday campaign
TWAC said its Giving Tuesday campaign will focus on raising money for the scholarship program. Giving Tuesday falls on Dec. 1 this year.
The scholarship program has run for more than two decades, according to a TWAC press release from March. In the most recent cycle, the council awarded $40,000 to 14 graduating seniors from The Woodlands and Montgomery County. TWAC has awarded 296 scholarships to graduating seniors to date.
Winning students will have their work featured in the Student Arts Scholarship Anthology Volume 4, which will be available for purchase at The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival.
