Woodlands families looking to squeeze in one more week of summer fun before Conroe ISD classes start Wednesday, Aug. 12, have more than 20 free programs to choose from at the community's two public libraries.

The George & Cynthia Mitchell Library on Ashlane Way and the Kevin Brady Library on Buckthorne Place are running events for toddlers, teens, adults, and seniors every day Monday, Aug. 3, through Saturday, Aug. 8. Everything is free.

George & Cynthia Mitchell Library highlights

Monday, Aug. 3: A Play Dough Party for children ages 0–5 runs 10 a.m. to noon. No pre-registration needed; grab a ticket at the Children's Desk 15 minutes before start. That afternoon, teens ages 12–18 can join a Dungeons & Dragons One-Shot from 3 to 7 p.m., led by Dungeon Masters from The Adventure Begins. Pizza and snacks included.

Tuesday, Aug. 4: Family Storytime for ages 3–5 runs at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. A Computer Basics class for adults starts at 10 a.m. (registration required). Kids ages 6–11 can make a beaded keychain at the Come & Go Keychain Craft from 1 to 3 p.m. Adult Mahjong (Chinese version) also meets 1–3 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 5: Family Storytime returns at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. A Book Swap for adults runs 1:30–3:30 p.m. in the large meeting room. Bring up to 10 books in good condition and trade one-for-one; leftovers go to the Friends of the Library.

Thursday, Aug. 6: The Fiction Book Club for Adults meets 1–3 p.m. to discuss Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt, sponsored by the South Montgomery County Friends of the Library. A Teen SAT Bootcamp runs 6–7:30 p.m., though registration has closed.

Friday, Aug. 7: Storytime & Critter Chat features a live animal ambassador from Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center, 10–11 a.m. Tickets at the Children's Desk; first come, first served.

Saturday, Aug. 8: A family screening of Jurassic World Rebirth (PG-13) runs 1:30–3:30 p.m. in the Large Meeting Room. Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Kevin Brady Library highlights

Monday, Aug. 3: Presenter Lindie Heasler leads Dementia: Hope and Help from 1 to 2 p.m., covering day-to-day caregiving realities for families dealing with Alzheimer's and dementia. Registration required. Podcast Studio Orientation sessions run at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. for residents who want to use the library's recording equipment. Game On! @ the Library, a family board game night, runs 5:30–7 p.m. with no registration.

Tuesday, Aug. 4: Mandarin Mah Jongg (intermediate level) meets 12:30–3 p.m.; call 936-522-2697 to reserve a spot. Teen Planet Yum!, which explores a different country through snacks and trivia, runs 4–5 p.m. for ages 13–17. The library says this will be the final Planet Yum session after a long run; registration is closed.

Wednesday, Aug. 5: A 3D Printer Orientation runs 1–2 p.m. for anyone wanting to reserve time on the library's 3D printer. Author Mike Kowis presents How To Write A Book from 1 to 2 p.m., covering topic selection, outlining, and editing. Registration required for both.

Thursday, Aug. 6: The Passport to Learning Back-to-School Event runs 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., featuring a multilingual storytime by the Swiss-American Society of Houston followed by come-and-go crafts. Teen Cross Stitch Bookmarks runs 4–5:30 p.m. for ages 13–17, timed to Book Lovers Day on Sunday, Aug. 9. Registration required.

Both libraries are open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. One-on-one Tech Help sessions are available by appointment at both locations; email Ayden Burns at [email protected] or ask at the reference desk.
